Photosynthesis explained to kids

Photosynthesis is how plants make food for themselves. Chloroplasts in the plant's cells trap sunlight. Then, the plant uses the sunlight to convert water and carbon dioxide into oxygen and glucose. Glucose is a type of sugar that the plant can use for energy. The process of photosynthesis happens in two steps: light interference and carbon fixation. Light interference happens when the plant's chloroplasts trap sunlight. This sunlight energy is then used to convert water and carbon dioxide into oxygen and glucose. Carbon fixation is when the plant uses the sunlight to convert carbon dioxide into glucose. The plant then uses the glucose for energy. Oxygen is a by-product of photosynthesis and is released into the air. Photosynthesis is how plants make their own food and produce oxygen for us to breathe!
