Some of the food that Genoa is known for includes pesto, focaccia, and ravioli. The city of Genoa was founded by the Greeks in the year 958 BC. It is one of the oldest cities in Italy. Genoa was an important city during the Middle Ages and the Renaissance. It was a member of the Maritime Republic of Genoa, which was a group of city-states that controlled trade in the Mediterranean Sea. Genoa has a lot of historical landmarks. Some of these landmarks include the Palazzo Ducale, which is a palace that was built in the 14th century, and the Christopher Columbus Monument, which is a statue of Christopher Columbus that was built in 1992. The Genoa Aquarium is one of the largest aquariums in Europe. It is located in the old port of Genoa. The aquarium has over 70 tanks that contain over 500 different species of fish.
