Aryabhata was an Indian mathematician and astronomer who lived in the 5th century CE. He is best known for his work on the Hindu-Arabic numeral system and his contributions to the field of astronomy.
Aryabhata was born in the Indian state of Kerala. not much is known about his early life. He is believed to have studied at a university in Kerala, where he learned about mathematics and astronomy. In 499 CE, he wrote a treatise called the Aryabhatiya, which contained his mathematical and astronomical theories.
The Aryabhatiya was written in Sanskrit, a language spoken in India at the time. It contained the first known description of the Hindu-Arabic numeral system. Aryabhata also wrote about a method for finding the square root of a number, and he made several predictions about the motions of the planets and the Moon.
Aryabhata's theories were later expanded upon by other Indian mathematicians and astronomers, including Brahmagupta and Bhaskara. His work also influenced Arabic and Persian mathematicians and astronomers.
Aryabhata died in India sometime between 524 and 550 CE.
