Ship explained to kids

Ships are large, ocean-going vessels. They come in all shapes and sizes, from huge cargo ships to small, private boats. People have been sailing ships for thousands of years. Most ships have a deck, or a flat surface where people can stand or walk. There are also usually several levels below the deck, where the ship's crew lives and works. The front of the ship is called the bow, and the back is called the stern. Ships are usually propelled through the water by engines, sails, or a combination of both. Sailboats have been around for a long time, but most modern ships use engines. Engines burn fuel to create power, which turns the ship's propellers and makes the ship move. Ships are very useful for transportation. They can carry large amounts of cargo or many passengers from one place to another. They can also be used for other purposes, such as military operations, research, and tourism. There are all kinds of different ships, from big to small, and from simple to very complex. Some ships are designed for a specific purpose, while others are more versatile. No matter what kind of ship it is, each one is a fascinating piece of engineering.
