Socrates was a famous ancient Greek philosopher. He is known for his Socratic Method, which is a way of asking questions to help people think about their beliefs. As a young man, Socrates served as a soldier in the Peloponnesian War. After the war, he became a philosopher. Socrates believed that wisdom comes from understanding the true nature of things. He also believed that the best way to live is by living in harmony with others and with the gods. Socrates was put on trial for his beliefs in 399 BC. He was found guilty and sentenced to death. Socrates chose to die by drinking a cup of poison. Even though Socrates died more than 2,000 years ago, people are still interested in his ideas.
