Life of Jesus in the New Testament explained to kids
Jesus was born in Bethlehem, a city in the region of Judea in the Roman Empire, to a virgin named Mary. At his birth, angels announced to nearby shepherds that he was the long-awaited Messiah of the Jewish people. His birth is celebrated annually on December 25, as Christmas.
Jesus was brought up in Nazareth in Galilee. As a young adult, he traveled to the Jordan River to be baptized by John the Baptist. After his baptism, he fasted for 40 days and nights in the desert. During this time, he was tempted by the devil. Afterward, he began his public ministry, preaching throughout Galilee and performing miracles, such as healing the sick and driving out demons.
Jesus attracted a large following, and his teachings often clashed with the religious and political authorities of the time. Eventually, he was arrested, tried, and convicted of sedition and blasphemy. He was crucified on orders of the Roman prefect Pontius Pilate. His death is commemorated on Good Friday, and his resurrection on Easter Sunday.
Christians believe that Jesus rose from the dead three days after his crucifixion and that he ascended into heaven. They believe that he will return to earth at the end of time to judge the living and the dead.
