Somaliland is a country located in the Horn of Africa. It is bordered by Ethiopia to the west, Djibouti to the northwest, and Somalia to the southeast. Somaliland has a population of around 3.5 million people and its capital is Hargeisa. Somaliland declared independence from Somalia in 1991 but is not recognized as a country by any other nation. Somaliland functions as a de facto independent state with its own government, currency, and military. It is one of the most stable regions in Somalia and has been relatively peaceful since its independence. Somaliland's economy is largely based on agriculture and livestock. The country also has some mining and oil resources. Somaliland is a member of the Arab League, the African Union, and the United Nations. Somaliland's history goes back thousands of years. The region was once part of the ancient kingdoms of Ethiopia and Somalia. Somaliland was a British protectorate from 1884 until 1960, when it joined with Somalia to form the Somali Republic. Somaliland declared independence from Somalia in 1991. Somaliland is a beautiful country with a rich culture and history. It is a great place to visit and learn about a different way of life.
