Saint Peter explained to kids
Saint Peter was one of the Twelve Apostles of Jesus Christ. He is also known as Simon Peter or Cephas. Saint Peter is considered the first Pope by the Catholic Church. He was born in Bethsaida, in the region of Galilee, and was raised in Capernaum.
Saint Peter was a fisherman before he met Jesus. When Jesus called him to follow him, Saint Peter left everything to become one of his disciples. Saint Peter was a witness to Jesus' miracles and teachings. He was also present at the Transfiguration and at the Last Supper.
After Jesus was crucified, Saint Peter denied knowing him three times. He was so upset by his denial that he wept bitterly. After Jesus rose from the dead, he appeared to Saint Peter and forgave him.
Saint Peter went on to preach the Good News about Jesus. He wrote two letters that are included in the New Testament of the Bible. Saint Peter was arrested and jailed by the Romans. He was executed by being crucified upside down.
Saint Peter is the patron saint of fishermen, bankers, and tailors. His feast day is celebrated on June 29th.
