Latvia explained to kids

Latvia is a country in Northern Europe. It is bordered by Estonia to the north, Lithuania to the south, Belarus to the south-east, and Russia to the east. Latvia has a population of around 2 million people and the capital is Riga. The country has a long history and was first settled by the Baltics tribes around 3,000 years ago. Latvia was ruled by Poland, Sweden, and Russia at different times. In 1918, Latvia gained independence from Russia. However, this only lasted for about 20 years and in 1940 Latvia was occupied by the Soviet Union. Latvia regained its independence in 1991. Latvia is a beautiful country with many forests, rivers, and lakes. It is also home to some interesting animals such as the brown bear, lynx, and elk. Riga, the capital, is a lovely city with many old buildings and a lively nightlife. Latvia is a great place to visit and has something to offer everyone. Whether you enjoy hiking in the forests, exploring medieval castles, or simply relaxing by the sea, Latvia is the perfect destination.
