Ornithology explained to kids
Ornithology is the study of birds. It is a branch of zoology, which is the study of animals. People who study ornithology are called ornithologists.
Ornithologists study all aspects of birds, including their anatomy (body structure), physiology (how their bodies work), behavior, ecology (how they interact with their environment), and evolution (how they have changed over time). They also study the relationship between birds and humans.
Ornithologists use many different methods to study birds. They observe birds in the wild, captive birds in zoos and aviaries, and dead birds that have been collected. They also use microscopes and other scientific equipment to examine bird specimens.
Ornithologists conduct field studies to learn about the natural history of birds. They track the movements of birds using radio transmitters, study the nesting habits of birds, and collect bird eggs and nests. They also study the effects of human activities on birds, such as deforestation and the use of pesticides.
Ornithologists work in a variety of settings, including universities, museums, zoos, bird sanctuaries, and government agencies. They may work as researchers, educators, conservationists, or bird guides.
