The Sahara is so big that it is about the size of the United States! There are many different types of animals that live in the Sahara, including camels, gazelles, and ostriches. North Africa has a long history. Some of the earliest humans lived in North Africa. The ancient Egyptians built the Pyramids and the Sphinx. The ancient Romans conquered North Africa, and it was a part of the Roman Empire for many years. North Africa was also home to the ancient civilization of Carthage. In more recent history, North Africa was colonized by European countries like France and Britain. This led to many years of conflict. In the 20th century, the countries of North Africa fought in World War II and in the Arab-Israeli War. Today, North Africa is a region of the world that is full of culture and history.
