League of Nations explained to kids

The League of Nations was an international organization founded in 1919 after World War I. The League's goals were to prevent future wars, promote cooperation between countries, and provide a forum for settling international disputes. Though the League was successful in some areas, it ultimately failed to prevent World War II. The League of Nations was headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland, and had 42 member countries. The League's most prominent success was its role in negotiating the Treaty of Versailles, which ended World War I. The League also helped resolve disputes between countries and oversaw the creation of several international organizations, including the International Labour Organization and the International Court of Justice. However, the League was unable to prevent the outbreak of World War II, due in part to its refusal to confront aggressor nations such as Nazi Germany and Japan. In 1946, the League of Nations was replaced by the United Nations.
