The Caribbean is a region of the world that consists of the Caribbean Sea, its islands, and the surrounding coasts. The region is located in the southeastern part of the United States, east of Mexico, and south of Cuba.
The Caribbean Sea is an ocean that lies between North and South America. It is about 2,754 kilometers (1,708 miles) long and 1,063 kilometers (660 miles) wide. The sea has an average depth of 2,200 meters (7,218 feet).
The islands of the Caribbean are divided into two groups: the Greater Antilles and the Lesser Antilles. The Greater Antilles include Cuba, Jamaica, Puerto Rico, and Hispaniola (which is home to the countries of Haiti and the Dominican Republic). The Lesser Antilles include the Virgin Islands, the Leeward Islands, the Windward Islands, and the Netherlands Antilles.
