Ada Lovelace explained to kids
Ada Lovelace is often considered to be the first computer programmer. She was born in London in 1815. Her father was the famous poet Lord Byron. Ada was educated at home by her mother, who wanted her to avoid the bad influences she believed Lord Byron would have on her. Ada married William King, Earl of Lovelace, in 1835.
Ada became interested in mathematics and science when she met the mathematician Charles Babbage. Babbage had invented a machine called the Analytical Engine, which could be programmed to perform certain tasks. Ada realized that the machine could be used for more than just calculation, and she wrote a program for it that would weave a pattern of numbers and letters.
Ada's program was never executed on the Analytical Engine, but it is considered to be the first computer program. Ada died of cancer in 1852, at the age of 37.
