Nervous system explained to kids

The nervous system is a system of nerves and cells in your body that helps you to think, feel, and move. It's made up of your brain, your spinal cord, and your nerves. Your brain is the control center for your nervous system. It's about the size of a grapefruit and it's where all of your thoughts happen. Your spinal cord is a long, thin bundle of nerves that runs from your brain down your back. Your nerves are like wires that carry messages from your brain to the rest of your body. Your nervous system helps you to do things like walk, talk, and breathe. It also helps you to feel things like pain and touch. The nervous system is very important for keeping your body safe. For example, if you touch something hot, your nervous system will send a message to your brain telling you to pull your hand away. The nervous system is made up of two parts: the central nervous system and the peripheral nervous system. The central nervous system includes your brain and your spinal cord. The peripheral nervous system includes all of the nerves that branch out from your brain and spinal cord.
