Velociraptor explained to kids
Velociraptor was a small, fast-moving dinosaur that lived during the Cretaceous period. It had sharp teeth and claws, and could run up to 60 miles per hour! Velociraptor means "swift seizer" in Latin.
This dinosaur was about 6 feet long and weighed about 33 pounds. It was covered in feathers, and had a long tail that helped it balance when running. Velociraptor was a carnivore, which means it ate other animals. It probably hunted in packs, and would have used its sharp teeth and claws to kill its prey.
Velociraptor lived in what is now Mongolia, in central Asia. It was first discovered in the early 1900s, when scientists found its fossilized remains. Since then, more Velociraptor fossils have been found, and we have learned a lot about this amazing dinosaur!
