Western Christianity explained to kids
Western Christianity is a form of Christianity that developed in the Western world. It is based on the teachings of Jesus Christ as presented in the Bible.
The first Christians were Jewish people who lived in the Middle East. They believed that Jesus was the Messiah, the savior that God had promised to send to them. When Jesus was crucified by the Romans, his followers said that he rose from the dead and went to heaven. They began to preach his message to others.
The message of Christianity spread to the Roman Empire and beyond. Emperor Constantine converted to Christianity in the 4th century, and it became the official religion of the empire. Christianity then spread to Europe, Africa, and the Americas.
Today, there are many different types of Christianity, but all believe in the same basic teachings of Jesus. These include the belief that there is one God, that Jesus was his son, and that he died to save us from our sins.
