Airplane explained to kids

An airplane is a powered flying vehicle with fixed wings and a weight greater than that of the air it displaces; an airplane relies on thrust from engines to provide the power to push it through the air, while lift keeps it flying. The term "airplane" includes any powered fixed-wing aircraft, including powered gliders, powered paragliders, hot air balloons, airships ( dirigible balloons), and helicopters. Airplanes come in a variety of shapes and sizes, and they are used for a variety of purposes. Commercial airplanes are used to transport passengers and cargo, while military airplanes are used for combat and other operations. Some airplanes are used for recreational purposes, such as flying lessons, skydiving, or glider flying. Airplanes are powered by a variety of engines, including piston engines, turboprop engines, and jet engines. The Wright brothers, Orville and Wilbur, are generally credited with inventing and building the world's first successful airplane and making the first powered flight on December 17, 1903. Since then, airplane technology has continued to develop, and airplanes have become an essential part of modern life.
