Bicycle explained to kids
A bicycle, also called a bike, is a two-wheeled vehicle. People ride bicycles for transportation, recreation, and exercise.
Bicycles have been around for more than 200 years. The first bicycles were made of wood and had iron wheels. Today, bicycles are made of metals, plastics, and other materials.
Most bicycles have two wheels of the same size. Some bicycles have one large wheel in the front and a smaller wheel in the back. These are called “mountain bikes.”
Bicycles are powered by pedals. The rider pushes the pedals to make the wheels turn. The wheels are connected to the frame by spokes.
Bicycles can go fast or slow, depending on how hard the rider pedals. Most bicycles can go about 15 kilometers per hour (9 miles per hour).
Bicycles are considered a “green” form of transportation because they do not produce pollution.
