The Early Middle Ages, or Early Medieval Period, lasted from the 5th to the 10th century CE. This was a time of great change in Europe, when the Roman Empire fell and was replaced by smaller kingdoms. The Early Middle Ages was a time of war, with many invasions by the Vikings, Arabs, and Magyars. It was also a time of disease, with the Black Death killing millions of people. The Early Middle Ages was followed by the High Middle Ages, from the 11th to the 13th century CE.
