Moon landing explained to kids
On July 20, 1969, the United States of America landed two American astronauts on the moon. Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin were the first men on the moon. The Apollo 11 mission was the first time humans had ever been to the moon.
It took Armstrong and Aldrin about two and a half hours to walk from their landing site to the lunar module, Eagle. They then began a six-and-a-half-hour journey to the moon's surface. The Eagle lander touched down on the moon at 4:17 p.m. EDT (20:17 UTC). Armstrong and Aldrin then descended Eagle's ladder, becoming the first human beings to walk on the moon.
The Apollo 11 mission was a great achievement for the United States and for the world. It showed that humans could explore and land on the moon. The mission also inspired people to explore other parts of space.
