Bhutan is a landlocked country in Asia, located in the eastern Himalayas. It is bordered by China to the north and India to the south. Bhutan is a small country with a population of just over 700,000 people. The capital city is Thimphu, and the official language is Dzongkha. Bhutan is a very mountainous country, with some of the highest mountains in the world. The highest point is Gangkhar Puensum, at 7,570 metres (24,840 feet). Bhutan is home to many rare and endangered animals, including the snow leopard, red panda, and tiger. Bhutan is a Buddhist country, and the main religion is Vajrayana Buddhism. This form of Buddhism is different from the more common Theravada and Mahayana Buddhism practiced in other countries. Vajrayana Buddhism includes the worship of deities and the use of rituals and ceremonies. Bhutan is a constitutional monarchy, and the head of state is the King of Bhutan. The current king is Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck. Bhutan is also a member of the United Nations, and has close ties with India and China. Bhutan is a beautiful and unique country, with a rich culture and history. It is well worth a visit!
