Kyrgyzstan is a landlocked country in Central Asia, bordered by Kazakhstan to the north, Uzbekistan to the west, Tajikistan to the southwest and China to the east. Its capital and largest city is Bishkek.
Kyrgyzstan's economy is dominated by the agricultural and tourism sectors. The country's rich natural resources include gold, uranium, natural gas, coal, oil and hydropower.
The Kyrgyzstan landscape is characterized by mountains, with some of the highest peaks in the Tian Shan range, including Khan Tengri (7,010 m) and Jengish Chokusu (7,439 m).
Kyrgyzstan is a republic with a parliamentary system of government. The president is the head of state and the prime minister is the head of government. The unicameral parliament, the Jogorku Kenesh, has 120 seats.
The Kyrgyz people are a Turkic people, and the official language is Kyrgyz. Russian is also widely spoken.
The population of Kyrgyzstan is 6,384,000 (2020 estimate). The majority of the population is Kyrgyz (70%), followed by Uzbeks (14%), Russians (9%), Tatars (1%), and other minorities.
The Kyrgyzstan economy is based on agriculture and livestock breeding, as well as mining (gold, uranium, rare earth metals, coal, oil and natural gas) and tourism.
The main agricultural products are wheat, barley, maize, potatoes, fruits and vegetables. Kyrgyzstan is also one of the world's leading producers of gold.
